Fire Department responds to kitchen fire
TOMAH -- A kitchen fire Saturday afternoon made two units uninhabitable at the Monroe County Housing Authority’s apartment complex at 515 N. Kilbourn Ave. There were no injuries.

Tomah Fire Chief Kevin Decorah said the department was called out at 12:45 p.m. and stayed on the scene for about an hour and a quarter.

Blaze at Superior landfill quickly doused
SUPERIOR -- A fire at the Superior Municipal Landfill was quickly contained this afternoon.

Landfill manager Charlene Johnson said it took about 15 minutes to douse flames that developed in an area where the public is allowed to dump debris.

Two fire departments receive federal grants
Two area fire departments have received grants in the federal Assistance to Firefighter Grants program.

The program is run through the Department of Homeland Security.

The Clintonville Area Fire Department received $61,655 for equipment and the Marion Fire Department received $82,650 for personal protective equipment.

New emergency tool gets thumbs up
REEDSBURG - A little over a month into its service life, Nixle has provided area agencies with a safe and effective way to communicate emergencies, transportation information, weather reports and even some important events going on in the community.

Sauk County Emergency Management Director Jeff Jelinek said the free, voluntary service sends notifications from local and county officials straight to subscriber’s mobile phones via text messages. There were 207 subscribers in the county after less than two weeks, Jelinek said.

Funding set for 2nd fire station
MONROE - The Monroe Common Council voted unanimously Tuesday to stop the sale of $950,000 in general obligation bonds for the construction of a west-side fire station and to pay for the facility with cash on hand.

Car fire ruled attempt at suicide
DELTON -- Authorities found three full gas cans at the scene of a vehicle fire Monday afternoon in the parking lot of the Ho-Chunk Casino.

86-year-old hospitalized after Janesville house fire
JANESVILLE (WKOW) -- An 86-year-old man was evaluated at Mercy Hospital for possible smoke inhalation after his home caught fire.

Authorities say Mark Dobbs was visiting a neighbor Tuesday afternoon when someone noticed smoke coming from the house next door. Dobbs saw Edward Butler, 86, inside the home and helped him out the back door.

Fire consumes Fond du Lac bowling alley

Green Bay firefighters take De Pere's rescue boat for test ride
GREEN BAY -- Water may be a firefighter's best friend, but ice can be their worst enemy.

The Green Bay Fire Department tested new ice water rescue equipment Friday in the hopes of keeping residents safe, dry and alive. The practice rescues were held at Manger Lagoon in the Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary, 1660 East Shore Drive.

35-year old fire truck to be replaced in Menomonie
Menomonie (WQOW) - A 35-year old fire truck will soon be replaced in Menomonie.

The city is getting a $675,000 grant from the Department of Homeland Security. Fire Chief Jack Baus says they were fortunate to get the grant, because very few were handed out.

Fire crews respond to shed fire in Chippewa County
TOWN OF HOWARD -- Fire crews responded to a shed fire on a farm in Chippewa County early Saturday afternoon.

Firefighters responded to 8794 County Highway T in the Town of Howard.

The Chippewa Fire District Chief says the 30’x 30’ shed which was used as a mechanical shop was connected to a five bay garage, but crews were able to save the garage before it caught on fire.
