Blaze damages Seventh Street home
WATERTOWN -- No one was injured Friday in a fire that caused nearly $100,000 in damage to a South Seventh Street home.
The Watertown Fire Department was dispatched Friday at 10:30 a.m. to 213 S. Seventh St. for a fire that reportedly started at the rear of the structure, according to Watertown Fire Chief Henry Butts. When firefighters arrived at the scene moderate smoke was coming from the roof line, added Lt. Tim Gordon. |

EAU CLAIRE -- Firefighters say if you see flames at Eau Claire Gas Company the next few days, don't panic, they're on purpose.
Eau Claire Fire Inspector Gary Puljas says Lakes Gas Company on Western Avenue needs to re-pipe a 30,000 gallon propane tank. While the liquid can be pumped out, propane vapor will have to be burned off. He says a vertical torch will burn the excess vapors starting tomorrow morning, and it could last several days. |

Appleton safety officials to spread word on mandate requiring carbon monoxide detectors in homes
APPLETON — Fire Inspector Brian Noel knows it will take a major effort to let people know that Wisconsin homeowners soon will be required to have carbon monoxide detectors on every floor of their home.
But like similar requirements for smoke detectors a generation ago, there is no way fire or building inspectors will be able to check every home for compliance. |

Morning fire ravages Merrill landmark
MERRILL -- Fire officials still are trying to determine what caused a fire that burned most of a popular Merrill supper club to the ground early Monday morning.
The bar and restaurant portion of The Arena, 1212 Center Ave., Merrill, was destroyed in an early morning fire Monday. Firefighters were able to beat back flames and save the attached banquet hall from destruction, Merrill Fire Chief Bob Odegard said. WJMT |
