Fitchburg Fire Department Annual Past Members Picnic

FITCHBURG, Wis -- On Sunday, September 16th, 2007 the Fitchburg Fire Department held its annual end of summer past member’s picnic. Fitchburg FD invites all past and present members to attend. A retired firefighter roasts a pig and the fire department supplies the rest.

It’s a fun time for past and present members to talk and reminisce about firefighting and to share stories of times gone by.

It’s also a great time for people to catch up with what’s going on currently with Fitchburg Fire.

Nye Rd Fire-September 11th, 2007

TOWN OF EXETER, Wis -- Belleville Fire Department and automatic aide from New Glarus Fire, Albany Fire and Monticello Fire, were paged for a reported barn on fire at W2683 Nye Rd in the Town of Exeter in Green County. The initial reports to Green County 911 center was the barn already had smoke and flames showing.

Belleville Engine 1 was the first to respond and when they were close to the scene, they could see light smoke showing. Engine 1 called for addition units from Monticello Fire, Albany Fire, and New Glarus Fire.

Belleville Engine 1 laid down their 5” supply line and started assessing the situation. It quickly became apparent to Chief Tom Adams that the fire was deep in the barn and that a quick attack was necessary.

While setting up water supply for the attack engine, smoke from the barn started to get thicker and blacker and it quickly flashed and started the majority of the barn on fire.

Chief Adams set up hose lines for a defense attack and to save surrounding buildings.

The barn was storing 25,000 square hay bales and there were calves in an adjoining structure. All calves were taken out of the building and saved.

Chief Adams stated the total damage is around $300,000 to $350,000 and the fire was under investigation at the time of this report.

Fire departments responded from Belleville, Brooklyn, New Glarus, Verona, Juda, Evansville, Blanchardville, Monticello, Albany. Belleville EMS and Brooklyn EMS provided rehab for the firefighters and medical treatment if needed. No injuries to any firefighters were report.

The structure involved was a 65ft x 200ft dairy barn and an attached 40ft x 60ft calf barn.
